True Beauty Sessions: A Whole New Kind of Senior Portrait Session

What's a girl to do?

I mean really.  What's a girl to do when her job and her heart find themselves in conflict?

Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE my job!  Anyone who knows me knows this, especially when it comes to high school seniors.  I love capturing their unique style, their exceptional beauty, the expressions that make them "them".  I have found the job of my dreams!

But my heart sometimes struggles with this job.  After all, here I am celebrating each girl's beauty- her eyes, her smile, her gorgeous hair, or the way she laughs- but what I really want to do is celebrate with them their inner beauty- the TRUE BEAUTY of their heart, which is so precious is God's eyes.  (1 Peter 3:3-4)

I have been praying about this conflict for a few months now, and just recently had the most wonderful idea.  As I know full well, none of my great ideas are ever mine, so I'm giving God credit for this one!  Thank You, Father!

Starting RIGHT NOW, in addition to my classic Senior Portrait Sessions, I will be offering TRUE BEAUTY SESSIONS.  These sessions are exactly the same as my classic senior portrait sessions in most ways- planning, products, price, technical process, etc.  The one difference is the focus.

With a typical Senior Portrait Session, the focus is on the outside.  We chat about personality and color preferences, we create Pinterest boards to brainstorm poses and lighting ideas, colors and expressions.  We connect with the best hair salon in town (props to Gwendolynn's Salon & Spa) to create flawless hair and make up, and we have a great time.  

With TRUE BEAUTY SESSIONS, the focus begins and ends with the heart.  We begin with prayer and a special Bible verse chosen by the senior and then journey through the portrait experience with a focus inward.  Pinterest boards, hair and make up, lighting, posing, prints and portrait pieces all remain part of the process, but all are grounded in prayer and God's Word.

TRUE BEAUTY SESSIONS go much deeper than the surface, creating an experience that could be life changing for each girl.

How fun.

Those were the two words that kept floating in and out of my head the entire ride home.  It had rained a little.  It was kind of muggy.  The guys were a little late, having rushed there from a playoff baseball game (Tyler kicked butt in it).  And all I kept thinking were those two words.

How fun.

Photographing families is always fun for me, but every once in a while, I get a family that knows how to laugh and how to have fun together.  A family where the littlest one sees his oldest brother as his hero, where sisters are also friends.  A family where jokes are abundant, and so are hugs.  A family in love.

How fun.

The Davidsons/ Schwenksville Maternity & Newborn Photography

One of the greatest perks of being a portrait photographer is sharing in the joys of family life, particularly when that family is growing.  And most definitely when that family is growing with baby #1!  It is an amazing and special gift to witness and capture the excitement of expecting parents, and the overwhelming love poured out over their newborn baby.

Such was the case with Scott and Carla as they anticipated and then celebrated the birth of their baby boy Riley.  The love that enveloped this home and this little man were extraordinary and I actually found myself in tears as I edited these images.  There is nothing more precious in life than family.

The Hafer Family/ Douglassville Family Photography

I fear I am falling behind in sharing all of the wonderful family sessions I've had the pleasure to photograph over the past couple of months.  Tis the portrait season and it's getting crazy, but I'm hoping to get back on track blogging about the amazing people that I've been spending time with.

Anyone who knows Amy knows how amazing this woman is.  She is a blessing to all those around her, especially her 3 beautiful kids!  We finally made a date to capture some family portraits before the start of school this year and it was a blast!

I'm hoping this is not my last portrait session with this awesome family!   We had a great time shooting, but then spent time afterwards just talking and connecting and I enjoyed that time so much.  What wonderful kids!  What a testimony to what a wonderful mom Amy is.

The Kremers/ Gilbertsville Family Photography

I have known the Kremers for quite some time, and long enough to know that they are a crazy, awesome, special family.  Kim and Carl have huge hearts, for the Lord, for each other, for their family, and for the world.  And so it's been absolutely wonderful to watch all of these loves come crashing together in the most beautiful way this past year as the family welcomed their newest child, Lincoln.

Kim called on me to create some family portraits to celebrate their growing family and it was awesome.  The day of the session, she called on me a bit worried about clothing choices, which obviously was just a big joke!  I LOVED their outfits and the color family that Kim chose.  Knocked it out of the park, Kim.

We had a blast and I loved capturing the love of this awesome family.  Lots of hugs, laughs, giggles, smiles and kisses.

The Smeltzers/ Gilbertsville Family Photography

I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had with the Smeltzer family.  I mean sure, you know you are going to have a great time when the family shows up with the most adorable little girl AND an awesome yellow lab (named Dawkins!  How fun!)  But truly, Norm and Laura were so fun, so happy together, and so totally head over heels in love with their little Reagan, that every shot was filled with emotion and beauty.  

I loved every minute of it!

This session was definitely one of the highlights of my summer, and I already cannot wait for our next portrait date (we've got one planned for late autumn- Christmas cards!).  I'm certain the next session will bring more smiles, more laughs- and hopefully a few more cuddles for me from Miss Reagan (and Dawkins too!).
