Are we having fun yet? Happy Day 14 of our Month of Photo Fun! It's homework time again and this assignment might be a bit more challenging. At least it was for me.
Today, your assignment is to shoot something outside your comfort zone.
Perhaps that means diving into the garden outside to shoot some close-ups of the flowers and the critters living among them.
Or maybe it makes you uncomfortable to shoot indoors under tougher lighting conditions.
Maybe large groups make you nervous and you don't feel comfortable photographing too many people at once.
Or maybe you're like me and find landscapes the greatest challenge. I always feel that unless there is a face in my photo, my photo is lacking. I have seen so many gorgeous landscape portraits and am in awe over how a photographer can make such a gorgeous image without any beautiful faces, any stunning pairs of eyes staring back.
But sometimes I will go out of my comfort zone to shoot a landscape. I shot this image a few summers back for a book I was creating for my father-in-law. Not my favorite shot to be sure, but it was a fun new challenge for me.
Take a risk and photograph some things you are not used to photographing. As with all things, the more you push yourself, the better you become. As for me, I'll stick to portraits and to keeping faces in front of my camera. But I'll keep trying new things too.
What about you? What might you photograph today? What gets you outside your comfort zone?
Let us know!
