Day 22 of our Month of Photo Fun brings homework! Today's assignment is to consider shooting a Photo Essay, or a theme.
Come up with a simple theme or concept and go off looking for ways to photograph it. Pick a color and go crazy (shoot everything purple in the most interesting ways you can think of), or think of a word and go shoot (shoot love, shoot joy, shoot goofy- the adjective OR the cartoon dog!).
Or shoot objects in different ways. Personally, I love shooting walls. I love finding different looking walls with fun textures and colors and finding ways to incorporate them into my portraits.
When shooting your Photo Essay, consider different colors and textures.
Or consider different times of day and how that can change things (see Day 21). The above image and the image below are of the same wall, just shot at different times of the day.
Consider how to place your subjects along that wall and what you might add to your images. I love adding quotes to my photos.
Think about where YOU want to stand to photograph your theme. Think outside the box and don't just shoot from the usual perspective.
Play with color with respect to your surroundings and your subject. Find ways to contrast colors and really make things POP!
Have fun and play with your theme. Shoot emotions, shoot morning portraits, shoot nature, shoot kisses. The sky's the limit!
What theme will you choose? Did shooting for a specific theme have you thinking of your portraits differently? What challenges did you come across? What was most fun?
